US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the US-led military campaign against Iran, “Operation Epic Fury”, has concluded.
He made the remarks during a White House briefing on Tuesday, noting that Washington’s current priority is ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Rubio described recent US military actions during the ceasefire as “defensive”, as tensions persist in the waterway amid an ongoing naval blockade.
He also defended US sanctions and maritime pressure on Iran, saying the measures are aimed at safeguarding global commerce and civilian shipping.
Criticising Tehran’s actions, Rubio said attempts to block or control the strait should not be normalised, warning that such moves risk disrupting international trade.
As Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visits Beijing, Rubio urged China to press Tehran to avoid further escalation, cautioning that continued hostility could leave Iran increasingly isolated globally.
