Iranian deputy foreign minister Saeed Khatibzadeh has stressed the importance of finalising the ‘outline of agreement’ before the second round of talks with the US.
He said, ‘We cannot set a new date for the meeting until it is finalised.’
The Iranian deputy foreign minister stressed that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement on some issues. And this is because the US has raised ‘additional demands’.
Citing anonymous Iranian sources, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran has conveyed its conditions to Washington through a Pakistani mediator.
Tehran has also made it clear that it does not want to waste time with long and pointless talks.
Meanwhile, some new proposals have been made by the US in the past few days. Tehran is reviewing them and has not yet responded, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said in a statement.
Earlier, the first round of peace talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, did not yield any results. Although a temporary ceasefire is in place between the two sides, Pakistan is trying to bring the US and Iran back to talks in the second round.
