Kuwait said drones were fired toward its territory on Thursday, causing significant damage in what marked the first reported attack in the Gulf since a ceasefire between Iran and the United States entered its second day, reports AFP.
The Kuwait National Guard said in a statement that one of its sites was targeted, resulting in substantial damage but no casualties.
Earlier, Kuwait’s military said its air defences were actively responding to “hostile drone attacks” that had breached the country’s airspace and targeted several sensitive installations.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Gulf states repeatedly exposed to missile and drone attacks since the start of the broader conflict triggered by Israeli–U.S. strikes on Iran on February 28.
Since then, hundreds of drones and missiles have been launched across the region, raising concerns about the security of critical infrastructure and the stability of the fragile ceasefire arrangement.
The latest attack underscores the continuing volatility in the Gulf, even as diplomatic efforts attempt to prevent further escalation.
