Pakistan’s defence minister Khawaja Asif has called Israel “evil and a curse on humanity”.
He made the remarks in a post on social media.
In the post, he said, “Israel is evil and a curse on humanity. While peace talks are underway in Islamabad, genocide is taking place in Lebanon. Innocent civilians are being killed by Israel; first in Gaza, then in Iran and now in Lebanon; this bloodshed continues unabated. I hope and pray that those who created this cancerous state on Palestinian land to expel European Jews, burn in hell.”
Representatives of the US and Iran are going to hold talks in the Pakistani capital Islamabad. Khawaja Asif’s comments have gained international attention ahead of the talks.
Khawaja Asif's comments come against the backdrop of Israel's recent military actions, which experts say are an important indication of Pakistan's diplomatic stance and policy towards the Middle East.
