The Ministry of Interior of Libya’s Government of National Unity announced on Thursday that German authorities have declined to conduct the technical analysis of the black box from the military aircraft that crashed in Turkey, killing Libyan Chief of Staff Mohammed Al-Haddad and his companions.
According to the official statement, four other countries with the technical capability were proposed to take on the task. Following unanimous agreement among the Libyan investigation committee, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Turkish public prosecutor, and the Libyan Attorney General, Britain was selected as a neutral party to carry out the procedures required to extract and analyze the black box data.
The decision comes as the investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues. During their visit to Turkey, the Libyan investigation committee inspected the central operations room of the Turkish gendarmerie to review the initial measures taken following the crash.
Meanwhile, the Turkish forensic unit confirmed that DNA analysis had been completed, accurately identifying Al-Haddad and his companions through comparison with samples from their families.
After coordination meetings with Turkish authorities, it was agreed that the victims’ remains would be transferred to Tripoli on Saturday morning, where they will be received with full military honors.
