A devastating fire in a residential building in southern China has claimed the lives of 12 people, state media reported on Wednesday, reports AFP.
The fire broke out at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday in a four-story building in Shantou, Guangdong province. The blaze was extinguished by 10:00 p.m., according to Xinhua news agency.
This incident comes on the heels of a horrific fire last month in neighboring Hong Kong, where a massive blaze engulfed multiple high-rise residential towers, killing 160 people.
The cause of the fire in Shantou remains under investigation. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and provide assistance to the affected families.
