More than 180,000 Thai citizens have been evacuated from border regions following the eruption of renewed clashes with Cambodia, the Thai government reported on Wednesday, reports AFP.
As of late Tuesday, 180,125 people had been relocated from provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border, including Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, and Buriram. The evacuations were prompted by escalating military tensions and violent confrontations between the two nations along the disputed border areas.
The Thai public relations department issued a statement confirming the numbers, which continue to rise as the situation evolves. The conflict, which has reignited in recent days, has led to widespread displacement and security concerns in the affected areas.
The Thai government has urged citizens to stay in designated safe zones while the authorities work to manage the growing crisis.
