Shocking details have emerged in the case of a 22-year-old woman raped in her Pune apartment, with the accused still at large nearly 24 hours after the attack. The man, who posed as a courier delivery agent to gain entry, allegedly took a selfie using the victim’s phone and left a chilling note threatening to leak her photos online, police revealed on Thursday.
The assault occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Pune’s Kondhwa area, while the woman, an IT professional, was alone at home. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde, the suspect claimed he was delivering a bank-related envelope and asked for a pen. As she turned to retrieve it, he entered the flat, latched the door, and sexually assaulted her.
The woman told police she lost consciousness during the assault and regained awareness around 8:30 p.m. She then contacted her relatives, who informed police. Officials say the accused used her phone to take a selfie that partially showed his face and her back. He also left a handwritten note threatening to circulate her images on social media if she reported the crime. The message ended with a chilling warning: “I will come again.”
Investigators are probing whether a chemical spray was used to knock the victim unconscious. Forensic teams have collected nasal and oral swabs, while CCTV footage and gate log data from the residential complex are being analyzed to identify the suspect.
Pune Police have registered a case under sections 64 (rape), 77 (voyeurism), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ten special police teams have been deployed to apprehend the suspect.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, who visited the scene, expressed confidence in a breakthrough soon. “Our teams are following multiple leads and we are confident the accused will be arrested soon,” he said, adding that a suspect sketch will be drawn once the victim’s medical examination is complete.
