Iranian state media have described the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump as a deal “imposed on the enemy,” following a reported Iranian military strike on a US base located in Qatar.
The ceasefire, which Trump claimed was brokered between Iran and Israel, comes amid heightened regional tensions. However, even after the announcement, Iranian anti-aircraft systems remained active, suggesting a state of alert within the country’s military.
CNN’s Fred Pleitgen, reporting from Tehran, observed anti-aircraft fire lighting up the sky over the Iranian capital shortly after Trump made his statement regarding the truce. The continued activity of Iranian air defences raises questions about the stability and immediate effectiveness of the ceasefire agreement.
Tehran has yet to release an official government statement confirming the ceasefire terms, but state television characterised the development as a military and diplomatic victory, portraying the United States and its allies as having been forced into the deal under pressure.
The situation remains tense as international observers watch for further developments or possible violations of the truce.
