Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Sunday strongly condemned the recent United States airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, describing the action as “open aggression” and a serious threat to international peace and stability.
In an official statement, Hamas said the US move constituted a “clear violation of international law” and urged the global community to intervene and prevent further escalation.
“This aggression reflects a dangerous expansion of American hostility in the region and poses a direct threat to global peace and stability,” the statement read. Hamas called on international institutions and the United Nations to take immediate steps to confront what it described as a destabilising act.
The condemnation comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East following strikes claimed by the US President Donald Trump, targeting Iran’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Iran, however, has downplayed the damage and vowed to respond.
Hamas has remained a key political and militant actor in the Palestinian territories. The group launched a major assault on Israel on October 7, 2023, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed. In the ensuing Israeli military campaign, over 50,000 Palestinians have been reported killed in Gaza, with tens of thousands more displaced.
Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, is classified as a terrorist organization by several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel. However, the group maintains that it is engaged in legitimate resistance against Israeli occupation.
