Iran has been largely cut off from the global internet for over 60 hours, severely restricting the public’s ability to communicate, express political views, and access safety information, a digital rights watchdog reported on Saturday.
According to NetBlocks, a global internet monitoring group, the outage began earlier this week and has persisted across much of the country, leaving citizens disconnected from international websites and online services.
“The internet shutdown continues to severely limit the public’s ability to express political viewpoints, communicate freely, and follow safety alerts,” NetBlocks said in a statement.
While authorities in Tehran have not provided detailed explanations, Iranian officials have attributed the disruption to heightened threats of Israeli cyberattacks.
They claim the restrictions are necessary to protect national infrastructure from potential sabotage.
