US fighter jets have left a base in eastern England as reports grow of plans for the United States to get involved militarily in the conflict between Iran and Israel, BBC and Al Jazeera reported.
Photos taken by an amateur photographer show F-35 fighter jets departing from Royal Air Force Lakenheath. They were accompanied by an air refuelling tanker plane.
Meanwhile, the United States Embassy in Jerusalem and consular section in Tel Aviv will be shut from today through Friday due to the conflict between Israel and Iran and to comply with instructions from Israel's Home Front Command, the US State Department said.
"The US Embassy has directed that all US government employees and their family members continue to shelter in place in and near their residence until further notice," the embassy said in a statement.
The embassy also said that it had "no announcement about assisting private US citizens to depart" Israel at this time.
