Tehran says it will target countries defending Israel

Iran has warned that it will target regional military bases of any country that attempts to support Israel amid the ongoing escalation, a senior Iranian official told a US broadcaster on Saturday.

According to a report by CNN, the unnamed Iranian official stated that Tehran “reserves the right – under international law – to respond decisively to this regime,” referring to Israel. He added that “any country that attempts to defend the regime against Iran’s operations will, in turn, see its regional bases and positions become new targets.”

The remarks come in the wake of Iranian retaliation following Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian residential, military, and nuclear sites — attacks which, according to Tehran, resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists.

The official said Iran’s response would be intensified in the coming days, noting that the country views the Israeli actions as “aggression” and a violation of international norms. “Iran will escalate its retaliatory strikes against the Zionist regime,” the official said.

In a statement issued on Friday night, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed it had launched a barrage of ballistic missiles toward Israel under Operation True Promise III. The missile assault was reportedly carried out “in compliance with the directive of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Armed Forces,” and described as a response to the will of the Iranian people.

The IRGC claimed that hundreds of missiles breached Israel’s advanced, multi-layered air defense systems and struck designated targets. The scale and precision of the attack have not been independently verified, but it marks one of the most significant direct confrontations between Iran and Israel in recent memory.

The situation remains highly volatile, with fears growing over the potential for broader regional involvement. Tehran’s latest warning has raised concerns in Gulf capitals and among Western allies with military assets stationed across the Middle East.
