One survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, in seat 11A, a British national, has been found in the deadly crash of an Air India plane carrying 242 people, after it rammed into a nearby doctors’ hostel shortly after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport, a senior police officer said.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, including 12 crew members, crashed shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, July 12, afternoon India time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as “heartbreaking beyond words” and said he was in touch with ministers and officials overseeing rescue efforts.
“The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,” PM] Modi wrote in a post on X.
President Droupadi Murmu also expressed deep sorrow for the tragedy.
“I am deeply distressed to learn about the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. It is a heartrending disaster. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected people. The nation stands with them in this hour of indescribable grief,” the President wrote in a post on X.
