U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran is taking part in current negotiations aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict, joining the United States, Israel, and Hamas at the table.
“Gaza is currently in the midst of major negotiations involving us, Hamas, Israel—and Iran is actually involved,” Trump told reporters at the White House, after returning from Camp David.
He did not elaborate on Iran’s role, stating only: “We’ll see what happens with Gaza. We want to get the hostages back. That’s all I can tell you.”
According to Israeli, American, and Palestinian sources, the U.S. has presented a 13-point plan that includes a 60-day cease-fire, reciprocal hostage and prisoner releases, and structured talks on Gaza’s governance. Under the proposal, Hamas would release 10 living Israeli captives and the remains of 18 others in two phases.
Despite growing international pressure for a cease-fire, Israel has continued its military offensive in Gaza since October 2023. Over 54,400 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed, according to local health authorities. Humanitarian agencies warn that the territory is at risk of famine due to the ongoing siege.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its conduct in Gaza.
