Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly May 6 attack in Kashmir, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed solidarity with Pakistan and urged restraint during a phone call with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency on Wednesday.
The two leaders discussed the volatile situation along the Line of Control (LoC), particularly the recent strike that resulted in multiple Pakistani casualties.
President Erdogan extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a swift and full recovery.
Reaffirming Turkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan, Erdogan commended Islamabad’s “measured and responsible” approach to the crisis. He also welcomed Pakistan’s call for an impartial, transparent, and internationally supervised investigation into the attack.
The Turkish president emphasized Ankara’s commitment to regional stability, stating that Turkiye is ready to do “everything possible” to prevent further escalation. He confirmed that diplomatic channels are actively engaged in efforts to defuse the crisis.
