Fire crews uncovered around 100 cat corpses after responding to reports of a terrible stench, with some even found in a freezer.
They arrived at the house on Saturday around 3 pm, where they made the disturbing discovery, the Bohemia Fire Department told The New York Post.
Feline corpses were found scattered throughout the home, with some bizarrely stored in a freezer.
Bohemia Fire Department First Assistant Chief Brian Olsen said: “They notified us about cats and dead cats in the dwelling. They are at this time condemning the house."
The house has now been condemned due to high levels of ammonia, with the Suffolk County SPCA previously reporting a possible leak.
The fire marshal also placed a "keep out" sign on the front door to prevent anyone from entering.
However, the homeowner was reportedly still inside the house hours later, according to News12.
Police later arrived at the scene to investigate the shocking turn of events.
Photos from the scene showed several living cats pawing at the windows as officers conducted their investigation.
But this is apparently not an uncommon sight, as neighbors told News12 the house has long been surrounded by cats, both inside and out.
Neighbors said that one man lives in the house in question.
They also noted that cats have roamed the entire neighborhood for years.
Residents added that the felines were known to enter backyards and sometimes left a strong ammonia-like smell around their properties.
Brandon Gennarelli, 29, a neighbor on the block, said: "I’ve lived here my whole life and we’ve just seen cats coming in and out of the sump over here and at their garage and front door.
“We’ve had a lot of stray cats come in our back and front yards a lot. We don’t really know where they’ve been coming from but the fact that they’re coming in such bulk we kind of assumed that it’s coming from somewhere over here."
It remains unclear exactly how many cats were in the house or how many were found dead.
