Local authorities said that 10 people died after four boats capsized on a river in Qianxi City, southwest China's Guizhou Province, on Sunday afternoon.
Chinese state news agency Xinhua News Agency reported the deaths, citing the local authorities.
According to the accident command center, a sudden gust of wind struck the Liuguang River in a local scenic area at about 4:40 pm, causing the boats to capsize, throwing 84 passengers into the water.
Rescuers have located all of them, with 70 receiving hospital treatment for injuries, and four who escaped unharmed.
Investigators confirmed that two of the boats— each certified to carry 40 passengers— were operating within capacity, while two boats were tied up at the dock and empty.
Nearly 500 rescue workers joined the operation, and all survivors were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where provincial medical teams administered treatment.
