Indian origin FBI Director Kash Patel, whose confirmation sparked widespread concern, is now under fire for absentee leadership, frequent nightclub appearances, and alleged misuse of government resources.
Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, former FBI counterintelligence official Frank Figliuzzi claimed Patel is “more visible at nightclubs than the FBI’s Hoover Building,” adding that Patel’s daily briefings have reportedly been reduced to twice a week. “It’s both a blessing and a curse,” said Figliuzzi. “If he were really running things without experience, it could be worse—but right now, headquarters is in chaos.”
Figliuzzi said the FBI lacks clear direction and described a sense of disorder among agents. Sources indicate that Patel often works remotely from his residence in Las Vegas, with limited physical presence in Washington. Multiple media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, have reported that Patel spends a significant part of the week away from FBI headquarters.
Further escalating the controversy, Senate Democrats are calling for an investigation into Patel’s alleged use of FBI jets for personal travel, including trips to visit his girlfriend and attend sporting events. The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) may be tasked with reviewing the purpose and cost of these flights, as well as potential violations of federal travel regulations.
The growing scrutiny raises concerns over accountability at the FBI’s top level, with critics questioning the leadership standards and operational transparency under Patel’s directorship.
