Delegations from Iran and the US are set to hold a second round of “indirect” nuclear talks mediated by Oman in the Italian capital Rome later on Saturday, reports Al Jazeera..
The delegations met in Oman last weekend, holding what both sides described as “constructive” talks about Tehran’s nuclear programme after weeks of sabre-rattling and heightened tension.
Washington has set a high bar for what it wants from the negotiations: a comprehensive end to Iran’s uranium enrichment programme.
Iranian officials have cast doubt on the US’s desire to reach a deal, saying the talks won’t work out if the Trump administration sets unrealistic demands.
Regardless, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has said Tehran is entering Saturday’s discussions with an open mind.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always demonstrated, with good faith and a sense of responsibility, its commitment to diplomacy as a civilised way to resolve issues, in full respect of the high interests of the Iranian nation,” he wrote in a post on X.
We will bring you updates from the talks over the coming hours.
