The government has appointed Masud Khan, Group CEO of Crown Cement PLC, as chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
The Ministry of Finance issued a notification on Thursday regarding his appointment to the post for four years.
According to an official notification, Masud Khan has been appointed chairman of the capital market regulator for a four-year term from the date of joining under Section 5(2) of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993.
The appointment is subject to his severing all employment and professional affiliations with other institutions and organisations before assuming office.
It has been learned that Masud Khan has also been serving as Chairman of Unilever Consumer Care since July 2020.
Masud Khan previously served LafargeHolcim Bangladesh for 18 years as chief financial officer and spent 20 years with British American Tobacco in finance and related roles both in Bangladesh and abroad.
He was also an independent director of Singer Bangladesh Limited and Community Bank Bangladesh PLC.
Masud Khan's appointment follows the resignation of former BSEC chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood and four commissioners earlier on Thursday, paving the way for a major restructuring of the country's capital market regulator.
