Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the country’s financial sectors, including the capital market and the National Board of Revenue (NBR), will be decentralised within a short time.
He made the remarks while speaking at a summit organised by the Financial Reporting Council in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Wednesday.
The finance minister said Bangladesh’s economy has gone through instability over the past several years, leaving many institutions ineffective.
He also noted that no individual can claim ownership of a bank, saying banks belong to shareholders while the money held by banks belongs to depositors.
