The Saudi Arab-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SABCCI) – Bangladesh’s first ever bilateral chamber of commerce and industry with a Middle East country – will officially launch in the capital on Tuesday, during the first of its kind business summit.
The Saudi Arab-Bangladesh business summit will be held at a hotel in Dhaka’s Banani from Monday to Wednesday, said SABCCI President Ashraful Haq Chowdhury at a press conference held in Gulshan, Dhaka on Sunday.
SABCCI Vice President Ahmed Yusuf Walid, Pran-RFL Group Director Uzma Chowdhury, and City Bank Deputy Managing Director Mesbaul Asif Siddiqui were also present at the press conference, according to a press release.
Business leaders, policymakers, economists and business sectoral experts from both countries will take part in the three-day business summit, it was said at the press conference.
Saudi businessman Sheikh Omar Abdul Hafiz Amir Baksh, owner of Majd Al Umran Group, will lead a 20-member delegation at the summit.
In a written statement, Ashraful Alam Chowdhury said that the joint initiative is a timely step toward building a strong economic and investment partnership between Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh. The Saudi market offers great potential for Bangladesh’s ready-made garments, agricultural products, IT, digital finance, and jute goods.
He further stated: “Bangladesh is now interested not only in sending skilled manpower to Saudi Arabia but also in joint investments across various sectors. In particular, there is tremendous potential for cooperation between the two countries in petrochemicals, steel, agro-industries, green technology, cyber security, and semiconductors.”
