Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed confirmed that the provision allowing the whitening of black money has been entirely removed from the approved budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. The initial proposal had suggested allowing the purchase of apartments or flats, offering an opportunity to legalize undisclosed or black money through property construction. However, this provision was scrapped in the final version of the budget.
Dr. Salehuddin made the announcement during a post-budget press conference on Sunday afternoon at the Finance Ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat.
Earlier that day, the Advisory Council approved a budget of Tk 7.90 lakh crore for the next fiscal year. The meeting, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, finalized the budget, which will be implemented from July 1 via a Presidential ordinance.
Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed had previously presented the budget for FY 2025-26 outside Parliament. The proposed budget, which was broadcast on June 2, was aired live on state-run BTV as well as other private media channels.
