Forum panel leader and Rising Group Managing Director Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu) has been declared the president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for the 2025-2027 term.
In a notice on Saturday, the BGMEA Election Board announced his name as the chief of the country’s apex apparel trade body.
The board also announced Salim Rahman as first vice-president, lnamul Haq Khan as senior vice-president, Md Rezwan Selim as vice-president, and Mijanur Rahman as vice-president (finance).
Other vice-presidents are – Vidiya Amrit Khan, Md Sehab Udduza Chowdhury, and Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury.
According to the notice, only one valid nomination against each office-bearer position was submitted by the due date. Since no appeal was filed, all office bearers of the BGMEA have been hereby elected uncontested.
The Election Board declared the office bearers elected for the term 2025-2027.
The notice was signed by Election Board Chairman Mohammad Iqbal, Secretary Mahmudul Hasan, and members Ashraf Ahmed and Syed Afzal Hasan Uddin.
Earlier, the Forum panel, led by Mahmud Hasan, won 31 out of a total of 35 director posts in the election held on 31 May, while Sammilito Parishad panel bagged four director posts.
In Dhaka, the polls took place at the Radisson Blu Water Garden hotel, where 1,528 out of a total 1,631 votes were cast. Some 103 votes became invalid. In Chattogram, 248 out of 303 votes were cast while six votes were invalid.
The last BGMEA election was held in March 2024. The then president SM Mannan Kochi resigned in October following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in August last year.
