The Chinese government will donate 1 billion yuan for Bangladesh as part of bilateral economic and technical cooperation, said Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum on Sunday.
Nurjahan made the remark during the opening of the “China-Bangladesh People-to-People Exchange Year: Yunnan Education and Health Promotion” at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University.
The grants will be made available under separate deals for different projects, she said.
An agreement on economic and technical cooperation between the governments of China and Bangladesh on 28 March, the adviser said.
As part of the cooperation, China will construct a 100-bed rehabilitation hospital in Dhamrai, Dhaka, for people with various disabilities. In addition, medical surgical units will soon be set up across the country with Chinese support to ensure high-end medical services, particularly for peripheral regions, she added.
Highlighting further collaboration, Adviser Nurjahan said, "A key initiative currently in the pipeline is the establishment of a Robotic Physiotherapy Centre at Bangladesh Medical University. The equipment has already arrived in the country and is awaiting clearance at Chattogram Port."
