Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, stated that market control is impossible without the honest will of major political parties.
Speaking at a policy conference on "Reasonable Food Prices: Search for a Market Surveillance Strategy" at Hotel Sonargaon on Sunday, he expressed doubts about the interim government’s ability to enforce law and order.
“We cannot expect effective governance from the interim administration. While its advisors are good people, assuming that honesty alone can solve systemic issues is unrealistic. Reform requires a structured approach, much like how human systems have evolved over time,” he said.
Addressing the advisors, he urged them to take meaningful action during their tenure. “You have this opportunity through immense sacrifice. Use it to implement real change. If each of the 24 advisors initiates a key reform within their ministry, it will be a milestone for Bangladesh.”
He ended on a defiant note, suggesting that even if political forces sought to silence him, his message of reform would endure.
