Dharmasingh Chakma, 40, a local UPDF man, was killed in brushfire by armed terrorists in Rangamati. The incident took place in the Kutukchhari residential area of Sadar upazila around 6 am on Friday.
Two more women were injured in the incident. The injured are Bhagyashova Chakma (31) and Kripasona Chakma (45). Both of them are activists of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) Youth Forum.
According to police sources, a group of armed men raided Dharmasingh Chakma's house in Kutukchhari area in the early hours of the morning. He was sleeping at the time. The terrorists called him out of the house and opened fire. When other family members came forward to protect him, they were also shot at. Two women were injured on the spot. Later, the terrorists quickly left the scene. Panic spread in the area after the incident.
Rangamati Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Tarek confirmed the incident. However, the body of the deceased could not be recovered till now.
The injured were rescued and taken to Rangamati Medical College Hospital, but their condition deteriorated and they were later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said the hospital's RMO Dr. Sawkat Akbar Chowdhury.
UPDF leaders have blamed the Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) for the incident.
