Ghorashal-Palash Fertilizer PLC, one of Bangladesh’s largest fertilizer factories, resumed production on March 31 after a 27-day halt caused by a gas supply crisis.
Md. Fakhrul Alam, Factory General Manager (Administration), confirmed to the media on Thursday (April 2) that operations had gradually restarted once gas was restored. The factory’s gas connection had been cut on March 4 following government instructions, halting production entirely.
Authorities said it typically takes 5 to 6 days to reach full production after a shutdown, meaning the factory is expected to operate at full capacity by April 4 or 5. With a daily production capacity of approximately 2,800 metric tons, the factory relies entirely on gas.
The facility requires a daily gas pressure of 71-72 PSI for uninterrupted production. Officials noted that limited production is possible even at 52-53 PSI, helping mitigate losses during gas shortages. The restart marks a critical step in stabilizing fertilizer supply for the country.
