State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, vowed to reduce corruption within the Land Ministry to a "single digit" figure within the next six months through a dedicated anti-corruption campaign.
The Minister made the statement during a press interaction at an Eid reunion held at his residence, "Dalia Kunje," on Chatteshwari Road in the city on Sunday.
Barrister Mir Helal emphasized that one of the key steps in this initiative was the full automation of land offices. He explained that implementing a cashless or transaction-free system would eliminate corruption and the harassment of landowners during official processes.
“Once automation is in place, landowners will no longer need to visit offices in person to obtain records or pay land development taxes. These processes will be fully available online, allowing citizens to complete registration and payment transactions from the comfort of their homes,” the State Minister stated.
Expressing concern over the current state of land services in Chattogram, he acknowledged that many land offices still failed to provide satisfactory services. However, he assured that the government was committed to modernizing e-services at land offices across the country. He highlighted the Hathazari land office as an example, where no cash transactions are conducted.
"If the automation system is fully implemented across all land offices, it will be possible to significantly reduce corruption and improve the quality of services for landowners," Barrister Helal added.
