Traffic will be diverted in several parts of Dhaka on Thursday morning to facilitate the movement of dignitaries attending the first session of the Jatiya Sangsad, reports Daily Sun.

The President, the Prime Minister, members of parliament, foreign diplomats, leaders of various political parties and other dignitaries will attend the session at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, said a notice issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Due to the event, an increased number of vehicles is expected to move through Urojahaj Mor, Khejur Bagan, Manik Mia Avenue, Asad Gate and the July Memorial Museum (Ganabhaban) intersection, which may cause temporary traffic congestion in surrounding areas, it said.

To ease traffic movement, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Traffic Division will regulate vehicular movement through diversions from 8am to 11am on Thursday.

Under the arrangement, vehicles travelling from Indira Road towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Urojahaj Mor will not be allowed to turn right.

Instead, they will have to proceed straight through Manik Mia Avenue and Mirpur Road to reach their destinations.

Similarly, vehicles moving from Manik Mia Avenue towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Khejur Bagan will not be allowed to turn left and will be directed to travel via Farmgate.

During this period, vehicles will be allowed to move one way southbound on both sides of the road from Urojahaj Mor to Khejur Bagan.

The DMP has requested all drivers to follow traffic instructions during the specified time to avoid congestion and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.

Police also sought the cooperation of city residents in this regard.
