The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has decided to carry out mosquito control operations three times a day across its jurisdiction following a surge in mosquito infestation.
To intensify the campaign, DNCC has formed special Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to address identified hotspot areas.
Since taking office, DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan has prioritised mosquito control, introducing measures to improve the effectiveness of the programme. Under his directive, citywide operations have been reorganised, with the revised schedule taking effect on Tuesday.
According to an official letter signed by DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, larviciding activities will be conducted in the morning to eliminate mosquito larvae.
In addition to afternoon and evening drives, fogging operations will be carried out at night in designated areas, taking into account peak mosquito activity hours.
Through region-based, three-phase daily operations, DNCC aims to curb mosquito breeding and limit their spread more effectively. The drives will continue even on weekly holidays.
Health officials have been instructed to remain present in the field and regularly supervise area-based teams to ensure proper implementation of the programme. Special operations have already begun in identified hotspot zones under QRT supervision.
Updated lists of drains, sewerage lines, water bodies and canals identified as breeding grounds for Culex mosquitoes are being prepared, with necessary measures being taken accordingly.
DNCC said it is giving top priority to preventing dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. Directives have also been issued to ensure the presence and accountability of mosquito control workers, alongside strengthened field-level monitoring.
Residents have been urged to keep their homes, rooftops, balconies and surrounding areas clean, ensure proper waste management and prevent water stagnation. Authorities also sought active cooperation from citizens in eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
