Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan said on Sunday that ongoing efforts are focused on restoring comfort and relief for city residents through continuous field-level initiatives.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Korail slum, he said, “We are working tirelessly to ensure people can live with some degree of comfort. Our focus is at the field level, and we are determined to make results visible.”
On mosquito control, he noted that a special monitoring cell has been formed to implement the program. He expressed optimism that regular supervision and coordinated measures would deliver visible improvements soon.
Regarding broader urban development, Shafiqul Islam emphasized that the government is working to fulfill electoral commitments, including road repairs, lake protection, and creating a livable urban environment. He reaffirmed DNCC’s commitment to meeting residents’ expectations.
State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, present during the visit, said data collection is underway in Korail for the distribution of family cards. Eligible residents will receive the cards free of charge, with funds transferred directly to their bank accounts. He urged residents not to pay bribes to obtain the cards.
He also highlighted that inspections of water bodies and footpaths are ongoing, with steps being taken to eradicate mosquitoes and remove sidewalk encroachments in phases, following directives from the Prime Minister.
The visit included Secretary to the Local Government Division Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, DNCC CEO Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Waste Management Officer Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chief Health Officer Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, Chief Engineer Syed Rakibul Hasan, and other department heads.
