For the first time, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has won the Faridpur-1 parliamentary constituency, with candidate Dr. Ilias Mollah securing 154,145 votes under the scale symbol. The unofficial results were announced privately around 1:30 a.m. Thursday and confirmed by Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan Mollah.
In Faridpur-1, Dr. Mollah’s nearest rival, BNP candidate Khandaker Nasirul Islam, received 126,476 votes under the paddy sheaf symbol.
Independent candidate Abul Basar Khan finished third with 34,387 votes under the football symbol. A total of eight candidates contested the seat.
