Despite months of rumours about the election, voting in Dhaka is proceeding peacefully, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali said.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday after casting his vote at Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum, he said, “For the past six months, we have heard all sorts of rumours. But today, voting is taking place smoothly. There are no problems or concerns.”
He added that the Chief Adviser had hoped for a historic election, and so far, the environment reflects that expectation. “People are enjoying their civic rights after 17 years. I am happy to be part of this election,” he said.
Commissioner Sajjat Ali noted that polling centres have remained peaceful, with no major incidents, and rival parties have pledged to accept the results.
He expressed confidence that voting will continue smoothly and that results will be announced fairly.
