Voting for the 13th National Parliamentary Election is underway across the country, and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has introduced a unique initiative to add a festive and reassuring atmosphere for voters.
Alongside maintaining security, the DMP’s ‘Mounted Police’ or cavalry teams are patrolling major streets of the capital, symbolizing tradition and nobility while promoting peace and safety among citizens.
Four separate mounted teams have been deployed to patrol key areas and roads, including Dhanmondi and its surroundings, attracting the attention of pedestrians and voters.
Police officers ride well-equipped horses adorned with red and yellow cloth, carrying messages such as “Vote Safely, Voting is Your Democratic Right.” Officers wear special helmets and safety gear while holding the DMP flag, creating an impressive and ceremonial presence.
The DMP said the initiative aims to combine security with a festive atmosphere, boosting public confidence while highlighting the police’s role in ensuring a safe and orderly election day. The mounted patrols not only add a touch of tradition and nobility to the city streets but also convey the message that citizens can exercise their democratic rights safely.
