Students of seven government colleges raising movement for a one-point declaration of Dhaka Central University's ordinance have suspended their protest until December 25.
Protester Abir Hossain shared this information at a press conference held in front of the Central Shaheed Minar of Dhaka College on Tuesday.
Since Sunday of this week, students of seven government colleges in Dhaka have been holding a sit-in program in front of Shikkha Bhaban intersection, demanding a central university ordinance and the start of classes for 2024-25 academic year. On Monday, the Education Advisor issued a notice with the protesting representatives and on behalf of the Education Ministry.
However, since the notice did not mention a specific date for the declaration of the ordinance, they announced to continue the movement. The protesters, who were supposed to gather at Shikkha Bhaban intersection from Tuesday morning, withdrew it. They held a press conference at 2:30 pm to announce the next steps.
In a written statement, Abir said, "After the ministry's press release, we announced to continue the one-point program in immediate response. However, following discussions with our students last night, it was decided that the ongoing one-phase program will be suspended until December 25. Senior students of seven colleges have also given us instructions in this regard. We will wait until December 25. During this time, we will decide what to do next in light of any situation.”
