The Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad has held a protest rally and procession in Barisal in protest against the leasing of the profitable Chattogram Port to ‘foreigners,’ ignoring public opinion.
The protest rally was held at Ashwini Kumar Hall premises in the city at 11 am on Friday.
The rally was presided over by Sramik Dal Barisal Metropolitan convener Faiz Ahmed. The speakers were Sramik Karmachar Oikya Parishad Barisal District coordinator AK Azad, Bangladesh Boat Federation Barisal district president Md. Abul Hashem, BSD Barisal District Branch coordinator Dr. Manisha Chakraborty, acting president of Samajtantrik Sramik Front Barisal District comrade Dulal Mallick, office secretary of Sramik Front Barisal District comrade Shahidul Hawlader, Nationalist Sramik Dal Barisal Metropolitan member secretary Shahidul Islam, acting president of District Sramik Dal A.H. Haque, general secretary of Sramik Dal Barisal Metropolitan Saiful Islam, etc.
The speakers at the rally strongly condemned and protested the attack on all the leaders and activists of the Left Alliance in the police attack on the Jamuna-oriented program demanding protection of the port. They also demanded the immediate cancellation of the contract for leasing the profitable Chattogram Port to foreigners, ignoring public opinion.
