The family of the man killed in the Metrorail bearing pad accident in Dhaka will receive an initial compensation of Tk 5 lakh, Road and Rail Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan announced on Sunday. He also said that if there is an employable member in the victim’s family, they will be offered a job in the Metrorail project.
Fouzul Kabir made the announcement while visiting the accident site at the Farmgate Metrorail station on Sunday afternoon.
A five-member investigation committee has been formed to probe the incident, with Bridges Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf serving as convener. The committee has been directed to submit its report within two weeks, the adviser added.
“Metrorail authorities will take full responsibility for the victim’s family. Initially, Tk 5 lakh will be given, and a job will be arranged for an eligible family member,” Fouzul Kabir said. “I will also visit the injured at the hospital and ensure proper medical care.”
Earlier in the day, Abul Kalam, a young man from Isharpati village in Naria upazila of Shariatpur, was killed when a bearing pad from an under-construction section of the Metrorail fell in the capital’s Farmgate area around 12:30 p.m.
