Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country has returned to normal after Kalni Express departed for Dhaka from Sylhet at around 9:30 AM on Tuesday.
Earlier in the morning, the Udayan Express train derailed in Mogalbazar, Sylhet leaving several passengers injured.
The incident occurred around 8:00 AM, according to Nurul Islam, Station Manager of Sylhet Railway Station.
He said the train had departed from Chattogram bound for Sylhet, and derailed in the Mogalbazar area shortly before reaching its destination. Necessary steps were promptly taken to restore train operations. By 9:30 AM, Kalni Express had departed from Sylhet towards Dhaka, indicating partial resumption of rail services.
Local sources reported that the engine and four coaches of the Udayan Express went off the tracks upon arrival at Mogalbazar. Several passengers were injured during the derailment. Rescue efforts were carried out by local residents, fellow passengers from other coaches, and members of the fire service, who assisted in evacuating those trapped in the derailed compartments.
