Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal paid tribute to the martyrs of the 'July-August Mass Uprising' by lighting thousands of candles at the National Shaheed Minar on Dhaka University campus at 12:01 am last night (1 July).
The organisation launched its month-long program titled 'Aloy Aloy Smriti Samujjwal' through this programme.
This programme of performing the national anthem and lighting candles was held in memory of the martyrs and injured in the mass uprising. Leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal's central and various units participated in it.
The organisation said, "This initiative is to commemorate the martyrs of the mass uprising, preserve historical memories and convey the message of national unity against fascism." According to Chhatra Dal, this programme will not only commemorate, but also create new enthusiasm for restoring democracy in the current political context.
Chhatra Dal's programme will continue for a month from 1 July, which includes discussion meetings, human chains, exhibitions, blood donations and cultural programmes.
It is worth noting that this programme is organised around the mass uprising spots that took place in July-August 2024.
Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir participated in the programme with leaders and activists of various units in Dhaka.
