Five people were killed in two separate road accidents in the capital’s Uttara and Bijoy Sarani areas early Sunday (June 29).
Three of the victims—Naimul Haque, Amit and Javed Alam Khan—were killed in the Uttara accident.
Officer-in-charge of Uttara East Police Station Golam Mostafa said a Dhaka-bound, stone-laden truck ploughed into pedestrians around 3 am, killing two on the spot, while another died at a local hospital.
Police later seized the truck and detained its driver.
In a separate accident around 4 am in the Bijoy Sarani area, two motorcyclists were killed on the spot after a microbus rammed into their motorcycle.
The identities of the motorcyclists could not be known immediately.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station, said, “The microbus driver fled the scene. Police are trying to identify the vehicle using CCTV footage.”
