Two members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police were injured in a shooting by drug dealers in the capital’s Paltan early Thursday.
The injured police officers are -- Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Atik Hasan and Constable Sujon.
Sources reported that the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Injured police personnel were rescued and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Enayet Kabir Shoaib, senior assistant superintendent of police of DB Lalbagh Zone, said that acting on a tip-off, DB officers attempted to intercept a private car on the road opposite the Central Police Hospital in Paltan. The suspects inside the vehicle opened fire, injuring ASI Atik Hasan and Constable Sujon. The injured were then rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Three drug dealers have been arrested in this connection, and the private car is now in DB custody, he added.
