In a brazen daylight robbery, a group of miscreants posing as members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) allegedly snatched over Tk 1 crore from employees of a Nagad distributor in the capital’s Uttara area on Saturday morning.
According to police, Abdul Khalek Noyon, a Nagad distributor and resident of Road No. 12 in Uttara Sector 13, had sent four of his staff members to a nearby distribution office around 9am, carrying cash amounting to over Tk 1 crore on two motorcycles.
As the team entered Road No. 13, they were intercepted by a black microbus. Three to four individuals wearing RAB jackets disembarked and chased the motorcyclists. While one of the employees managed to flee, the others were forcibly taken into the vehicle along with the bags of money, police said.
The victims were later released in Uttara’s Sector 17, while the perpetrators fled the scene with the cash, confirmed a police official involved in the investigation, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Division Deputy Commissioner Mohidul Islam told UNB, “I visited the scene shortly after the incident. CCTV footage from the area has been collected and is currently under analysis to identify the culprits.”
Law enforcement officials suspect that the use of RAB insignia was a deliberate tactic to deceive and intimidate the victims. A case has been filed, and an investigation is ongoing.
