Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has warned that any attempt to take the law into one’s own hands will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations of DMP, Muhammad Tabibur Rahman, referred to the incident that took place around early hours of Tuesday when 15-20 men attempted to forcefully enter a house by breaking its gate in Dhanmondi.
Being informed through the national emergency service, police from Dhanmondi Police Station rushed to the scene and tried to stop the men and bring the situation under control. However, the group became aggressive towards the police.
Tabibur Rahman said that the group had gathered to pressure the police into arresting one Md Golam Mostafa. To bring the situation under control, police detained three men from the spot and took them to the police station. They were later released at around 3:30 pm on Tuesday upon signing a bond promising not to engage in such unlawful acts in the future.
The DMP urged all citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to show respect for the law while cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
The press release also requested that any person who faces unnecessary harassment or witnesses any unlawful act intended to serve personal interests should immediately report the matter via the national emergency number 999 or inform the nearest police station.
Any future attempts to create chaos by taking the law into one’s own hands will be dealt with strictly, the DMP reiterated.
