A fire that broke out at the basement of the 10-storey Capital Siraj Centre Shopping Mall on Bailey Road in Dhaka Monday evening, has been brought under control.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident at 6:47pm and the first unit reached the spot at 6:58pm, according to the Media Cell of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
A total of nine firefighting units were dispatched and they tamed the blaze at 7:47pm, it said.
Firefighters rescued 18 people who got trapped in the incident, the Media Cell added.
Earlier, the Media Cell informed that the fire erupted at a restaurant located on the ground floor of the building.
No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
