Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz has announced the eviction process of illegal hawkers and autorickshaws from the Mirpur-10 intersection area.
He made the announcement at the inauguration of a development project in Ward No. 14 of DNCC on Sunday afternoon.
The administrator said, 'Hawkers cause a lot of problems in traffic at the Mirpur-10 intersection. No one can take away anyone's right to move. We will ensure free movement there. Hawkers or autorickshaws—whatever they are, will be removed from the main road. However, since many are involved in informal occupations, an alternative platform will be created for their rehabilitation.”
At the same time, he inaugurated the construction of a total of 4 kilometers of road, 5 kilometers of sewerage and 1.5 kilometers of footpath in the West Sheorapara, West Kazipara and Senpara Parbata areas of Ward No. 14 and participated in a public hearing.
The administrator promised to publish information on all projects on the website to ensure transparency in DNCC's development projects.
He said, "The public needs to know when the project will start, when it will end, how much money is allocated and what construction materials will be used. Only when the public knows will there be accountability."
He also said that during a recent surprise inspection in Ward 42 of East Dhaka, he found the use of low-quality construction materials. He said that although the wall was supposed to be built with stones, bricks were used, which is a major irregularity. The contractor has been informed that the bill will not be paid if the work is not done according to the prescribed standards.
He said, “Detailed information on the project and the contractor's phone number will also be given on the website so that the local people can understand the contractor's work.”
The DNCC administrator also said that there are allegations that the current administration has not given the password for the 'Sabar Dhaka' app. He said, "Although Tk 4 crore has been spent on this app, we have not been given the password yet. Legal action will be taken if necessary."
DNCC additional chief engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, regional executive officer of Region-4 Mohammad Jalal Uddin, superintending engineer Khandaker Mahabub Alam, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP convener Aminul Haque and local dignitaries were also present at the event.
