The authorities of Jahangirnagar University have decided to hold Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) polls by 21 May this year, reports the Daily Sun.
On Thursday night, the matter was confirmed in a notification signed by JUCSU President and JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
“The JUCSU election for 2025 will take place in the third week of May, by 21 May. An election commission has already been formed to carry out the process in accordance with the JUCSU constitution,” read the notification.
“As per the constitution, the schedule will be announced at least 21 days before the election date, by the last week of April 2025,” it added.
However, the election schedule was supposed to be announced on 1 February as per the previously declared roadmap.
The JU unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) requested the authorities to delay the announcement until the reformation of the JUCSU constitution.
In response, a 10-member reform committee, led by Treasurer Prof M Abdur Rab, was formed to review the constitution, and the university authorities decided to announce the election schedule on 6 February, after considering the committee's recommendations.
